This game is painful. Bobby Petrino is such a jerk. Rumor is his motorcycle injuries were actually the result of getting beaten up by his girlfriend's fiancé. They need to just fire his whole team and start over. They're poison.

Unbeaten Frankel capped a brilliant career as he overcame testing conditions to claim his 14th consecutive victory in the Champion Stakes. The world's top-rated racehorse, trained by Sir Henry Cecil, beat Cirrus Des Aigles by a length-and-three-quarters in his final race before being retired to stud.

The four-year-old colt lost ground at the start and was slowly out of the stalls under Tom Queally. In the softest ground he has encountered, the 2-11 favourite - considered one of the all-time greats - recovered and had enough to see off last year's winner (9-2). He was cheered continuously from three furlongs out by the sell-out 32,000 crowd.

Victory for Frankel took his career prize money to nearly £3m and his aggregate winning distance to more than 76 lengths. Owner Prince Khalid Abdullah confirmed in the winners' enclosure after the race that Frankel will be retired.

Well, well, well. Lance took dope. Lance lied. But only once :

"I view this situation as one big lie that I repeated a lot of times," he said.

I was a little bit shaken : has he become a better man? I never thought he could :

Calling himself a "jerk" as well as a humanitarian, he said he was flawed and wrought the disgrace which has now engulfed him. "I deserve this." Showed an old clip of him denying the accusations, he said: "I look at that clip and think, look at that arrogant prick. That's not me today."

But :
However, Armstrong, 41, denied being a mastermind who threatened other team-mates to dope, and rejected allegations that he bribed the International Cycling Union and a Swiss laboratory to cover up his cheating. He also denied taking drugs during his comeback in 2009 and 2010, and did not indicate – at least not in the first of a two-part broadcast – whether he would cooperate with the anti-doping agency Usada so that he can return to competitive sport, as has been reported.

Oof, I'm relieved. He's an avowed cheat, but he's still a lying scumbag. My world view was almost shaken for a minute.

Kentucky Derby won handily by Orb...one down, two to go in the Triple Crown!

Great ride by Joel Rosario, and good for Shug, it's about time! My sister and I always watch the races together, via Skype. I sported a Beanie Baby skunk on my head as a stand-in for a fascinator...it was lovely. We both had 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th. I'll be keeping an eye on Normandy Invasion at the Belmont.

The Oaks was a surprise. Dreaming of Julia was a heavy favorite, but had a bad trip and couldn't manage better than 4th. Princess of Sylmar with Mike Smith up won, paid $79.60 to win.

I'll never top last year when I picked I'll Have Another to win...we were at a party and I won the most of anyone there. The host made up the difference in my winnings of what the winning payout earnings were.

Strange, but the hosts didn't have a party this year...heh.

Rafael Nadal raced to a record eighth French Open title Sunday with a straight sets 6-3 6-2 6-3 dismissal of fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in a final briefly interrupted by a protestor brandishing a lighted flare...It was his 12th grand slam title and particularly sweet after his prolonged eighth month absence from the game with a knee injury -- only returning to the ATP circuit in February.

He also breaks out of a tie with Roger Federer and Pete Sampras, who had seven wins apiece in the same grand slam tournament, Wimbledon in their case.

Nadal's reputation as the "King of Clay" was further enhanced by his epic semifinal victory over No.1 Novak Djokovic, but his friend and long-time rival Ferrer was to prove stiff opposition despite the scoreline...

Serena Williams powered her way to the French Open title Saturday with a straight sets victory over defending champion Maria Sharapova of Russia in a compelling final.

The top seed from the United States ran out a 6-4 6-4 winner in one hour 46 minutes to clinch her 16th grand slam crown.

Sharapova put up a brave fight but could not prevent Williams from claiming her first French Open title since her maiden triumph in 2002...

What a Belmont! Palace Malice left favorite Orb and Oxbow in his wake Saturday to win the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes. The colt's victory means each of the 2013 Triple Crown races were won by different horses. Mike Smith spurred Palace Malice to victory, keeping his tiring horse ahead of the field at the 1.5-mile track, longest of the three thoroughbred racing classics. Oxbow, the Preakness Stakes winner, finished second. Orb, the Kentucky Derby winner, was third.

When I saw the opening fractions, I was sure Oxbow would fold, like Frac Daddy and Freedom Child did. That he managed to get second was amazing. You can see his legs must have felt like lead, but he's a game horse and kept moving. Same with Palace Malice. They went with Frac Daddy and Freedom Child and managed to keep going. The favorite Orb couldn't catch them and finished third, followed by Incognito, Revolutionary and Unlimited Budget.

Congratulations to Diana Nyad, 5th time is the charm!

Looking dazed and sunburned, U.S. endurance swimmer Diana Nyad walked on to Smathers Beach on Key West Monday, becoming the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the help of a shark cage.

Nyad arrived at the beach just before 2 p.m. EDT, about 53 hours after she began her swim in Havana on Saturday...

Wow

The Americas Cup is one race away from going home... To Auckland.

Team New Zealand 8 - 1 Oracle. In 24 hours, it'll all be over...

San Francisco looks beautiful from the water. Larry Ellison still looks like a schmuck.

Barring accidents. The other day, the NZ boat very nearly capsized, apparently from a hydraulic failure. Spectacular.

6596. alistairconnor - 9/19/2013 9:07:02 PM

oookay. Counting down to the last (?) race, starting at 1.15 Pacific time... about 7 minutes.

I'm hoping Oracle will win this one. To keep the match alive.

6597. alistairconnor - 9/19/2013 9:08:44 PM

Watch it here, live or in replay (a real-time game-style simulation, you can choose your camera angles)

6598. alistairconnor - 9/19/2013 9:44:31 PM

yup. Oracle won that one handsomely, by 30 seconds, leading from start to finish. NZ gets a second match-point race in half an hour. Unless the wind builds too much (over 22 knots, they call it off, as these big boats are extremely dangerous in high winds)

6599. alistairconnor - 9/21/2013 8:27:58 PM

Well, the second race was called off on Thursday because of high winds. Then the first race on Friday, in light winds, was going very well for NZ... a thousand metres in front... then they timed out : the race has to be finished in 40 minutes, and they were still three minutes from the line by then.

The second race yesterday was a beauty, and was won comprehensively by Oracle.

So the match stands at Team NZ _ - 2 Oracle. And it's still match point : Oracle need seven wins. NZ need one...

And today SF has its first significant rainfall since about February. With a southerly wind, which makes it impossible to set a course apparently. So there may or may not be any racing.

Sic 'em Bears!

GO BAYLOR!

6601. arkymalarky - 12/1/2013 8:31:22 PM

AR has been sad, but the Auburn coach is an Arkie. He ought to come back.

6602. robertjayb - 12/7/2013 10:48:15 PM

Tfreakingriffic!

Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State and keeps Texas alive, at least
for a couple of hours, in the conference race. Jenerator's Baylor Bears will probably beat the Longhorns later on this afternoon but coming close to glory ought to save
Texas Coach Mack Brown from the mob. Hope so.

6603. Jenerator - 12/10/2013 11:35:53 PM

Guess who's going to the Fiesta Bowl?! Oh yeah, bay-bee!

6604. arkymalarky - 12/10/2013 11:54:48 PM

Congrats!
