It kills me how they act like Obama's about to steal all their rights and he's attacking the Constitution when they so willingly handed it to Bush to spit on and tear up in their faces.

phony terror alerts admitted...

WASHINGTON — Former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge claims in a new book that he was pressured by other members of President George W. Bush's Cabinet to raise the nation's terror alert level just before the 2004 presidential election.

Ridge says he objected to raising the security level despite the urgings of former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and then-Attorney General John Ashcroft, according to a publicity release from Ridge's publisher. He said the episode convinced him to follow through with his plans to leave the administration; he resigned on Nov. 30, 2004.

The daily show has at least a bit a day where they've got someone saying the exact opposite of the things they said, say, going into the Iraq war.

I'd be willing to bet you could fill up a 24 hr news cycle with the stuff, and I wish they would. I think hypocrisy is the absolute WORST trait in a politician or news person. I wish they were nailing people to the wall with that stuff.

Well said Arky, and it just shows you how conservatives can't seem to link two concepts together, or think a thing through. They're really all buzz-word brainwashed.

Daily Show had a great clip last night from some right wing odd ball. I'll paraphrase:

...I did it all on my own! I was on welfare and food stamps and where was the government then? The government didn't do a damn thing for me...

Honest to God.

The Daily Show is the sanest thing on tv right now.

Rachel Maddow has gotten to the journalistic roots of expose's and it's been great to see someone besides bloggers bothering to do a little legwork and exposaing the puppeteers for a change.

That was Craig T. Nelson....an ACTOR. What a load of shit.

Hear, hear!

Hey Dubai! Great to see you! How's it going?

41669. Dubai Vol - 8/22/2009 11:40:04 PM

Thanks! I'll drop in to the cafe later. Between the birthers and the deathers, American politics screams "more of the same."

But if you want to know what real Americans are thinking, this free paper from my sometime stomping grounds is worth perusing:

http://www.thepeoplenews.com/

sorry, you'll have to C&P, my HTML-fu is weak. Lead story: Palin '12. Really.

41670. wabbit - 8/23/2009 12:05:59 AM

I guess I'm not a real American.

Google Trends for 2008, Bristol Palin v. John Edwards

Except for a spike in September, Bristol's big publicity was mostly happening in Alaska. Even the paper quoted at the spike didn't make her the headline for the article. And if John McCain can make a joke about Hillary and Chelsea and not get impaled for that, I see no reason why a national office candidate who is outspoken in her objection to sex education shouldn't have to account for her own family. Glass houses and all. Or is that only applied to dirty liberals?

But liberals have only themselves to blame. They didn't take Karl Rove seriously when he was out pounding the conservatives with the repeated lie style of politics. Facts be damned. If you say it often enough, it will become true. And the liberals were dumb enough to stand around shaking their heads in disbelief that middle America could be so easily mislead.

Personally, I'm a fan of Margaret and Helen.

41672. wabbit - 8/23/2009 12:22:17 AM

btw, Dubai, lest it read otherwise, none of that is aimed at you!

41673. Dubai Vol - 8/23/2009 1:51:17 AM

Oh, no offense taken, I'm a dirty librul myself. The sarcasm key on my computer is inop, because I know I'm not a real American by Saint Sarah's definition, or that of her acolytes.

Cheers!

Coffee-house wisdom from the Naked Lounge today:

I overheard a conversation where a man was explaining the difference in patriotism between conservatives and liberals.

"Conservatives love America like a 4 year old loves his mommy --- she is perfect in his eyes and anyone who says a word against her is a lying devil. Liberals love America like a man loves his wife of 25 years - he acknowledges her faults and supports her in her efforts to better herself, loving her none the less for her struggles."

41675. Dubai Vol - 8/23/2009 7:48:55 AM

Nicely put, Ms. No. I intend to steal that.

41676. wabbit - 8/23/2009 3:00:12 PM

I never thought of myself as a liberal, but I can't identify with a group that is pushing for a two class system (theirs with all the money and power, and the rest of us) under the twin flags of fear-mongering and finger-pointing.

Ms. No, I think I'll put that on a t-shirt. The apoplexy it will cause in my father and brother will be well worth it.

41677. arkymalarky - 8/23/2009 6:16:46 PM

I think they're going through the terrible twos. Now they're mad, so they're pitching temper tantrums at town hall meetings and threatening to run away unless they get what they want. They don't need mommy right now because she didn't give them their way in the last election.

I don't understand why every time one of those birthers or deathers evokes the Constitution on tv the interviewer doesn't ask them to specify what the Constitution says.

41678. Ms. No - 8/23/2009 7:05:44 PM

Sitting there last evening with the cooling breeze reminded me of what I love about where I live. There is a vibrant downtown culture where I can eavesdrop on a spirited and well-informed political discussion while drinking great coffee at an independent business and see local artists' work across from a park where they have regular neighborhood events in the summer like live music and kids' movie showings.

Of course, it has to be acknowledged that Midtown Sacramento is nothing at all like the rest of Sacramento. We're a very small section of the general population even if we do encompass the state government buildings.

Lieberman is the fungus that grows underneath pond scum.
